Mauritius consists of two islands. By far the biggest one is known as Mauritius - the capital city Port Louis is located here. Then there is a smaller island some 500 km away, called Rodriguez. Mauritius is part of the Mascarene island group and is located in the south-western Indian Ocean, around 855 km east of Madagascar and 1800 km east of the African continent. Mauritius is 2040 sq km in size, including approximately 10 sq km of lakes and has a coastline of 177 km. The island is almost entirely surrounded by coral reefs.
