West
India

The Arabian Sea guards the western
region of India. The places on the western
coasts are usually regarded gateway to the
western countries particularly the Gulf
region. Maharashtra,
Gujarat, Goa are few states
which form the coastal belt of west India.
On Arabian Sea is Mumbai (also know
as Bombay), the commercial capital
of India. Also known as, the dream
city Mumbai has attracted people from
all walks of life. The star attraction
of Mumbai is BOLLYWOOD, one of
the largest film industries. The
beaches and skyscrapers are part
of the topography of this place. The Gteway
of India welcomes every one to this
land of dreams. West India include
the states like Goa
and Gujarat in addition to Maharashtra.
Western Part is popular because of Bombay,
Goa (For its beaches), Rann of
Katch (Gujarat), Temples of Ajanta
& Ellora (Aurangabad, Maharashtra)
& Wildlife Santuaries in Gujarat.
After the vibrant atmosphere of Bombay,
allow the palm-fringed beaches of Goa
to warm your spirit in the sun and relax
your mind. Or meditate in cool and ancient
Buddhist caves tunnelled out of solid
rock on the craggy hillsides - a dramatic
contrast from the colourful fairs and
festivals in unspoiled Gujarat.
The choice is once again tremendous in this
land that offers everything Bombay -
Gateway of India.
On the western coast is Goa. Goa
is very popular haunt for the foreigners.
Not long ago the Hippies and drug
peddlers did notoriously infect this place.
They have not been totally eliminated but
their presence is almost nil today. Goa
is place where people are celebrating all
the year round. Folk songs & music
combined with the local brew Fenny
produces an effect, which is felt nowhere
else.
This region is the economically most prosperous
and developed regions of India with
respect to standards of living, infrastructure
and education. Gujarat is a major milk
producer with an established textile
and oil exploration/production industry.
While the city of Mumbai naturally
dominates the economical figures of Maharastra,
the state has a major sugar industry
in the Vidarbha region while other agricultural
products such as fruits (grapes and oranges)
are the grown in Marathwada and the
famous Alphonso Mangoes in the Konkan
region.
The most widely spoken languages
here are Gujarati, Marathi, Hindi,
in Bombay Konkani and Malvani along
the Konkan Coast and Goa. Ganesha
is a particularly important deity
in this region. |
